When to use a facilitator:

  • to enable collaborative decision-making
  • to enable inclusion and participation by a wide range of stakeholders
  • to help a group make complex decisions
  • if the manger or leader needs to have input to discussions or decisions but doesn’t want to influence or impede others
  • during times when dynamics in a group are high, emotional and hold potential for conflict
  • to enable difficult, contentious discussions
  • to enable innovation and creative thinking
  • to draw on the knowledge and wisdom of all group members equally
